Transmit: FTP for Macs

Zemanta Related Posts ThumbnailIn order to move files to your web host, you’ll need an FTP application.

On Macs, Cyberduck is a well-rounded FTP client, but it can be patchy at times.

Panic Software has developed Transmit, a $29.95 FTP client that we enjoyed using.

About Transmit FTP

Transmit is an FTP client primarily, but it also supports WebDAV and Amazon S3.

It offers all of the following and more:

  • Easy server-to-server transfers
  • The ability to set permissions
  • Excellent OS X integration
  • A dashboard widget for drag-and-drop uploads
  • Growl support
  • Synchronisation across computers
  • Column sorting
  • The ability to copy the web URLs of uploaded files, making them easy to link
  • Tabbed sessions

Why We Liked It

Transmit seems unremarkable, but that’s its strength. It’s there when you need it. Transmit does its job, does it well and does so intuitively and quickly.

While it’s not free, serious users will be willing to pay for something that’s reliable, and the S3 compatibility is a bonus.
