Should We Put Our Trust In the Cloud?
The internet is changing the way we live, and it’s built on hosting services.
Without cloud hosting, we wouldn’t have streaming music, streaming movies, online acess to our documents or the convenience of easy, immediate communication.
But is the cloud something to trust entirely? Should we be more cautious?
Reasons To Trust Cloud Hosting
Cloud hosting is the most up-to-date form of hosting on the market.
Why do people use it?
- Multiple servers multiple datacenters eliminate single points of failure.
- Cloud hosting services usually include encryption.
- Data is much more accessible.
- The cloud is faster than most other file transfer methods.
- Backups and security are (mostly) handled by the service provider.
Reasons to Avoid Cloud Hosting
Cloud hosting is untested, and it does have its drawbacks.
- Everything on the cloud is tracked, so there’s less privacy
- Your data is entrusted to a third party and could be outside our control.
- Your password is always a weak point in the chain.
- Users are reliant on having a reasonable internet connection.
- Licensing agreements often limit what you can do with your data.
So What’s the Answer?
Many of the benefits and drawbacks are relative to what you are using cloud hosting for.
Does cloud hosting fit your needs? Is is right for you?
Over time, the issue will become blurred. We will eventually get to the point where the web is made up of a combination of hosting and storage types.
Until then, use of the cloud has to be an individual decision depending on your priorities and needs.
