What is Free Module Hosting?
Customize your content management system by installing free modules. Just make sure your hosting provider supports module installations.
If you’ve ever used any kind of content management system (CMS), you’re familiar with modules, also sometimes called plugins, depending on the CMS. Nearly every CMS available comes preloaded with certain modules, and in some (such as WordPress), you have the ability to download and install others right from the CMS.
However, a few CMS solutions, such as Joomla and Drupal, offer free modules beyond the ones that come pre-installed. These external modules require manual installation to the server. They also require a hosting provider that supports free module installation.
Modules you can install on your CMS offer functions including, but not limited to, custom menus, system backup, e-commerce features, and content editors.
To install free modules, you’ll either need a hosting plan that gives you access to the server, or file transfer protocol (FTP) access in your hosting plan. Before you sign up for any plan, check with the hosting provider to ensure they offer free module installation support.
