What is Helm Hosting?
Helm, which has now been succeeded by Plesk, is a modular control panel designed for the effective management of one to one thousand websites and Web applications. For Windows, Plesk requires a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or higher, while for Linux it requires CentOS 6.x or higher.
Helm was built on the idea of giving Web hosting providers, Web developers, and small businesses the ability to control multiple websites, modules, administrator accounts, and servers from one simple control panel. With a strong focus on customization, it emphasized flexible functionality and nearly unlimited scalability.
Helm’s most recent successor, Plesk, incorporates all the original benefits of Helm while adding several more advanced features and options. Some of these include broad development platform support, extensive Windows server support, multilingual support for up to 12 different languages, built-in support for various virtualization technologies, automatic weekly security updates, intuitive administrative capabilities, easy migration bolstered by guaranteed lifecycle support, and a slew of features specifically designed to make Web hosting easier and cleaner.
Staying true to Helm’s legacy of groundbreaking modules, Plesk offers one-click installation of hundreds of free applications, as well as a Power Pack chock full of add-ons which work to help you integrate social media functions with your sites, manage servers from mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets, create mobile sites, and enable support for popular databases.
If those features sound like they could be valuable to your business, website, or Web hosting company, then Helm (in the form of its modern descendant, Plesk) could be the right control panel for you. Plesk is available from a wide range of providers, so be sure to ask if it’s supported by the provider(s) you’re considering when choosing a hosting plan.
