HostCabin Hosting
Ideal for individuals and small businesses who are looking for simple and affordable hosting,
HostCabin is centered around ease of use, economical prices, and basic, quality hardware to
support the needs of their clients. They have done away with the bells and whistles of other,
more expensive Web hosting providers in lieu of clean, straightforward hosting. They also cater
to resellers, and provide budget-friendly reseller plans for Web hosting companies.

Support

Though they plan to launch phone-based technical support in the future, HostCabin currently
offers no form of phone support. Instead, they offer 24/7 tech support through their helpdesk
system, as well as several purpose-specific email addresses. A response to all online queries and
emails is guaranteed within one to six hours.

Features

HostCabin offers both standard Web hosting as well as reseller hosting. Unlike most Web hosting
providers, they also offer a free hosting plan. Their convenient side-by-side plan comparison lets
you see which plan is best for you based on the features you need.

  • Free setup on all plans, including reseller plans
  • Unlimited* bandwidth on all paid plans
  • Webmail
  • cPanel control panel included on every plan
  • Mail forwarding and auto-responding systems
  • Anonymous File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
  • Support for Common Gateway Interface (CGI)
  • Support for PHP Hypertext preprocessor (PHP), Perl, Python, and Server Side
    Includes (SSI) scripting
  • Audio and video streaming
  • Included ImageMagick software
  • Hotlink protection
  • Custom error pages
  • 1,000 MB to Unlimited* disk space
  • Complete statistics on all paid plans
  • Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) email accounts on all paid plans
  • Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) support
  • Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)
  • Built-in anti-virus protection and SpamAssassin spam filter
  • Built-in IP deny manager
  • Both parked and add-on domains on all paid plans
  • Automatic application installation powered by Softaculous

Reseller Hosting

HostCabin’s reseller hosting plans include multiple features not found on their standard hosting
plans. If you’re looking for a cost-effective way to run your Web hosting company, one of HostCabin’s plans could be a great way to reduce costs for both you and your clients.

  • Prices as low as $2.95 for a 12-month package
  • Unlimited* bandwidth, disk space, and domains for all plans
  • 100% anonymous server
  • Custom private nameservers
  • Unlimited* subdomains, File Transfer Protocol (FTP accounts), and MySQL
    databases for all plans
  • cPanel control panels for each account
  • Access to Web Host Manager (WHM) control panel

*When hosts describe anything as “unlimited,” it is typically boundless except in cases of
abuse. A user may be charged a penalty or be required to subscribe to a more robust package if
they are overburdening the servers.

Pros

  • Highly affordable pricing
  • Options for resellers
  • Servers owned and maintained directly by HostCabin

Cons

  • No phone technical support
  • Free hosting plan lacks some key features and comes with only minimal storage

The Verdict

HostCabin is a great option for small companies with low to medium traffic websites, individuals
looking to open a blog or personal website, or resellers aiming to cut costs. If you fall into any of
those categories, you may want to look into one of HostCabin’s free or paid hosting plans. If,
however, you consider state-of-the-art technology and 24/7 phone support to be necessities, then
HostCabin probably won’t be a good fit for you.

I have multiple websites hosted with HostCabin. Each site has had numerous problems in the last few years. My email never seems to work – either I get database errors, Imap errors, or Corrupt Account errors.

They take down the sites a couples times a year, for no apparent reason. The accounts are paid annually, and I have proof that they were paid on time, or at least when they get around to sending an email with my bill and a link to pay it. This is the only way to pay bills with them, so I can’t pay in advance.

They just shut off the site, then email a bill to be paid! Then, occasionally, they shut off the site in error, and I have to email their support to get it back up! I have made several attempts to transfer my domain name from them, but they continue to reject the requests.

When I again email their support, they say to send it again, but then they reject it again, once sent. It’s a cheap hosting provider, but proof you get what you pay for!
