HostClear Introduction

HostClear is a professional web hosting company with a focus on reseller hosting, although they also offer regular shared hosting. Like many other web hosting companies such as SuperGreenHosting, HostClear is managed by JustHost, which is, in turn, owned by the US-based Endurance International Group.

Other than JustHost being the home of HostClear, I found very few other details about the company. It may be that it is just another portal for JustHost: any links I clicked on in HostClear took me right to the JustHost site.

I’ll summarise the features this company provides, but please also refer to the review for JustHost for additional information.

HostClear Hosting Plans

HostClear specialises in reseller hosting, although it does offer shared hosting as well. Like all JustHost plans, it only offers Linux-based web hosting.

● The Reseller hosting plans are based on the amount of disk space and bandwidth you need. You can choose from three plans (Silver, Gold and Platinum) and purchase up to 500 GB disk space and 35 MB of bandwidth. Each plan allows you to have unlimited domains.
● There is one shared hosting plan available through HostClear/JustHost. This provides unlimited space, bandwidth and email accounts and allows you to host unlimited domains.

HostClear Uptime/Downtime

There are no claims about uptime on the HostClear site, and neither are there any details about an uptime guarantee. Hosting is offered through ‘JustHost’s Proven Network’, who claim that their uptime is ‘outstanding’, but I found no statistics to back this up.

The JustHost data centre is located in Chicago and the network is monitored 24/7. Other than that, there are few additional details regarding its technical specifications.

HostClear Support

Like other companies who offer hosting with JustHost, the support is apparently provided by the same team as the rest of the group. This includes 24/7 telephone, live chat and email support.

HostClear also provides a help centre for raising support tickets, access to the server status, a variety of video tutorials, a knowledge base and access to ‘getting started’ user guides. There is no information on where HostClear support services are based.

HostClear in the News

There is little mention of HostClear in the news, like SuperGreenHosting and JustHost itself. There has been some anecdotal evidence of hacking at JustHost, but it has generated no waves in the media.

HostClear Control Panel

HostClear/JustHost provides Cpanel, and resellers also get WHM on top. These are included in the price of the plans and provide the usual features: DNS, addon domains, nameserver management, FTP and more.

HostClear Extras

HostClear provides a free domain name, free site builder and free ecommerce shopping carts for use with your website. Customers also get free Google advertising credits and free Yahoo advertising credits.

HostClear web provides free one-click installs for a wide range of website tools including WordPress, Joomla, phpBB, Roundcube, Magento, Drupal and more. There is little indication of whether it provides Fantastico, Softaculous or any other script installers specifically.

HostClear Money Back Guarantee / Cancellation Policy

The HostClear terms of service are the same as the JustHost terms of service. Whilst some other companies may offer 30 day money-back guarantee, HostClear offers an alternative. HostClear customers can cancel their hosting account at any time, and the company will then pay a full refund for any outstanding months left on the agreement. Refunds do not include domain name registration fees, so charges do apply regardless of whether it was a free domain or not. Other account setup charges are also exempt.

HostClear Summary

HostClear is a web hosting company focused on reseller hosting. In reality, the site is a shop window for JustHost which offers the same hosting plans and support.

The main difference between HostClear/JustHost and many other similar companies is the cancellation policy. The freedom to cancel your hosting at any time without having to remain in a fixed term contract may appeal to some.
