HostNed
HostNed is a small US-based hosting service founded in 2000, offering low cost Linux and Windows hosting services. HostNed is a brand operated by Bend Internet Solutions, a local computer repair and web design shop in Bend, Oregon.
Services and Specialties
HostNed offers several tiers of shared and reseller hosting plans, with both Linux and Windows options available.
Low-end shared hosting plans are available in multiple tiers, based on the amount of storage and bandwidth made available, as well as other limits like the number of email addresses and subdomains.
HostNed offers “Advanced” hosting, which seems to shared hosting with individual IP addresses, in a similar array of tiers. These plans include more features, and no limits on several usage categories:
HostNed also provides reseller hosting, for anyone who wants to set up their own low-cost hosting company. This is available is several service tiers, with the following features:
All of HostNed’s hosting plans are available with Linux or Windows operating systems. It is unclear which Linux distros or Windows versions are available.
HostNed also offers web design services.
Datacenters and Technology
HostNed does not provide any information about their servers, datacenters, or underlying technology.
BendInternet, HostNed’s parent company makes the following claim: “We manage our own servers and use only US-based, state-of-the-art data-centers ensuring you maximum speed, security, and availability.”
Support and Customer Service
Support and Service from HostNed is somewhat problematic.
The same not-toll-free phone line is used for sales and technical support (as well as for BendInternet’s computer repair service), and is only available weekday’s 10-5, local time (in Bend, Oregon). (A phone call placed by this reviewer during that window went unanswered.)
There is also a customer community forum, which was sparsely populated at its peak and has been largely inactive since at least 2014. The only recent posts are from spam marketers. Their Facebook page seems active though.
Security and Backups
Advanced and Reseller plans come with backups included, but the low-end shared plans do not.
Guarantees
HostNed makes no explicit guarantees of any kind about its hosting services.
Costs and Payment Policies
All of HostNed’s plans are billed monthly. The low-end shared plans are well-below average for shared hosting plans from major providers, but lask several key features as compared to plans that only cost a few dollars more each month.
HostNed accepts all major credit cards and PayPal.
