Slick Networks Introduction
Slick Networks is a hosting provider based in Australia. Its hosting services are aimed at businesses, both in its own locale and further afield. Its datacenter is located in Sydney, which will make it appealing for customers based in the southern Hemisphere.
The company provides shared, VPS and dedicated hosting, as well as a dedicated email hosting service and domain name registration. It was incorporated in December 2005, and it’s privately owned.
Services and Specializations
Slick Networks offers three categories of hosting plans: shared, dedicated, and VPS.
Shared hosting is provided on Linux machines, with email hosting included free. It packages its services into five plans, with pricing increasing with each tier. All plans include Softaculous and cPanel. But bandwidth, domain capacity, MySQL databases, and disk space are finite.
Next up, its VPS servers are provided on Linux or Windows, and are priced primarily according to the CPU cores and data transfer amounts. Each client gets 1 IPv4 address, and 1 IPv6 address, plus root access to their server.
Dedicated servers are also available on Linux or Windows, and the order page shows how many boxes are available with the advertised specification. Customers are charged a setup fee, in addition to the monthly fee advertised.
Infrastructure
Slick Networks hosts all of its customers’ websites in two datacenters in Sydney.
On its About page, it says it uses the Global Switch facility on Harris Street, which provides 41,500 square feet of datacenter floor space. Slick Networks points out that it is on a separate electricity supply to the central business district.
On its dedicated server page, Slick Networks appears to state that its servers are located in the Vocus datacenter. Vocus operates 18 data centers across Australia and New Zealand, and the Sydney location is very close to the city’s airport. Vocus provides a huge amount of technical data about its facilities on its website.
Support and Customer Service
Slick Networks hosts a small knowledgebase on its websites, which provides answers to basic technical and billing questions. Technical support is provided via an email form. There’s also a ticket system, but this is for billing and sales inquiries only. There doesn’t appear to be a telephone support option.
Uptime Guarantee
Slick Networks offers a 99.9% uptime guarantee on all of its shared hosting plans.
Billing and Payment
Once you’ve chosen your hosting with Slick Networks, you’ll be billed for the setup fee (if any), and the first month’s service. There’s no option to pay annually for dedicated servers, but users can pay for other packages over longer terms.
Summary
Slick Networks’ main appeal is its strong relationship with data centers in Sydney, and it appears to offer services through two of the main providers in Australia. Although there is no telephone support, customers in Oceania will enjoy improved transfer speeds when hosting their sites in the southern hemisphere.
