FAQs
Most asked Questions about TMDHosting – answered!
TMDHosting is not as well-known as companies like GoDaddy or Bluehost, but the company seems to have built a solid customer base and is getting attention from those who know (the company was one of the hosts included in PC Magazine’s Editor’s Choice list in 2018).
In addition to offering a wide variety of managed hosting packages that include bonuses other companies consider to be add-ons, TMDHosting offers customer service that is surpassed by few.
Background
TMDHosting, which is based in Orlando, FL, has been operational since 2007. The company has its roots in open source hosting, and over time, it has expanded its support for a wide variety of platforms and technologies (open source or no). If you have a niche platform for which you need hosting, TMDHosting might be the provider for you.
Currently, TMDHosting hosts web servers in:
- Amsterdam, Netherlands
- Chicago, IL
- London, England
- Phoenix, AZ
- Singapore, Singapore
- Sydney, Australia
- Tokyo, Japan
(Unfortunately, it appears that entry-level, shared hosting in particular, plans do not come with the option of selecting a datacenter.)

Terrible, time wasting company. If they really are #1, like Amazon, it’s starting to be a problem. Every aspect of the company is a problem.
Actually, I believe they are revamping their website and are in a beta version… I became a victim of poor testing and crappy planning. I spent over an hour trying to get a $23 refund. I should of gave up, but the operators were trying so hard to help me.
Don’t waste your time with these folks. It’s not worth it!

Been using Tmdhosting for more than 2 years now. I’ve started with their most affordable Starter package and now I’m using a VPS. Thanks to their excellent support my websites were never down for more than a couple of hours for the whole year, which was only a dream with my previous hosts where my websites were down for even more than a week. Compared to my previous hosting companies I can say that Tmdhosting is absolutely reliable and the price is totally worth it for what you get!
Web Hosting
TMDHosting offers the following types of web hosting:
- Shared Hosting
- Cloud Hosting
- Virtual Private Server (VPS) Hosting
- Windows VPS Hosting
- WordPress Hosting
- Joomla Hosting
- Drupal Hosting
- Reseller Hosting
- Dedicated Servers
TMDHosting also offers niche hosting options, such as those for specific e-commerce platforms (eg, Magento, PrestaShop), online communities (eg, SocialEngine, Dolphin), and educational platforms (eg, Moodle). These are very similar to the shared hosting plans, but you get the platform of your choice installed.

If you need Windows hosting, TMDHosting offers this as well. There are three plans from which you can choose, and all ship with support for the .NET Framework, SQL Server databases, and so on.
Shared Hosting Plans
How do TMDHosting’s shared hosting plans stand out from those offered by its competitors? We see several things:
- 99.999% uptime guarantee — this is something we typically see with more premium plans, and even then, you are likely to have to pay for such a high service level agreement
- Military-grade security implemented by TMDHosting staff that does not require active participation on your part
- Inclusion of services other web hosting providers charge for — for example, TMDHosting gives you free daily backups and migration assistance, and the company will credit you for unused months of service at your previous hosting provider
With that said, are the specifics of the web hosting plans any good? We would say yes. Here’s why.
Linux or Windows
When you purchase a shared hosting plan, you can opt for a standard Linux installation, or you can pay a bit more for Windows hosting.
Please note that the plans offered for the two types of hosting are not identical with just a change in the operating system — the Windows plans, while more expensive, also get you a bit more (eg, with the lowest plan, you get support for six websites instead of just one)
Regardless of which operating system you use, there are three plans from which you can choose. All come with:
- A free domain name
- Unlimited bandwidth and SSD storage
- cPanel Control Panel
- NGINX as your web server
- Unlimited email addresses
- Military-grade security and protection against spam
Caching and SSL
You will also get website caching and an SSL certificate, but the specifics of these two items are plan-dependent — the better your plan, the better your caching and SSL certificate.

cPanel
Users with shared hosting plans can manage their web hosting services, web server, and all things related to their web hosting with the provided cPanel Control Panel. TMDHosting does not modify the cPanel in any way, so if you have experience using cPanels with your hosting accounts, you will feel right at home.
Furthermore, by including the cPanel with all plans, you automatically get support for Cloudflare CDNs and the Softaculous auto-installer to easily add features and functionality to your website. You will also get sitebuilder functionality. The sitebuilder ships with thousands of free templates for you to use, as well as an intuitive, drag-and-drop website editor.
Advanced Hosting Options
Need more than what is offered by a shared hosting plan? TMDHosting has other options that might interest you as well. Currently, the company offers:
- Cloud Hosting
- Platform-Specific Hosting
- WordPress
- osCommerce
- Joomla
- Drupal
- And many more
- Reseller hosting
- VPS Hosting
- Dedicated Servers
Cloud Hosting
TMDHosting’s Cloud Hosting plans are very similar to the shared hosting plans — you can think of these as souped-up versions of their shared hosting company counterparts.
Cloud hosting plans are faster, more powerful, and more secure and robust than shared hosting plans. More importantly, they are easily scalable in a way that shared plans are not — for a couple of dollars more per month, you get a better plan that also future-proofs you against outgrowing the plan that works for you now (but may not be a great fit later).
WordPress Hosting
We titled this section WordPress Hosting because that is likely to be the most popular and most sought-after option, but really, TMDHosting excels at platform-specific hosting in isolated environments. The platform-specific hosting plans are essentially shared hosting plans, but with the platform of your choice installed by TMDHosting so that you have even less to do before your website is up and running.
When it comes to platform-specific hosting, there are three options from which you can choose. The features provided make these options fall somewhere in between the shared hosting and the cloud hosting options.
Reseller Hosting
TMDHosting offers all-SSD reseller hosting backed by a 99.99% uptime guarantee. There are three different plans from which you can choose, and like TMDHosting’s other offerings, you get nice bonuses like a WHM/cPanel Control Panel to manage your websites, caching, and discounts on domain names.
VPS Hosting and Dedicated Servers
If you have a resource-intensive website or your website sees a high level of traffic, you might consider one of TMDHosting’s VPS hosting plans or even a dedicated server.
Managed Servers
All of the VPS hosting plans and dedicated servers are fully managed, so these web hosting options are accessible even to those who do not feel comfortable undertaking the tasks performed by a system administrator.
Great Variety
There are a wide variety of plans, each with a varying allocation of resources — bandwidth, CPU cores, and so on — from which you can choose, but do note that all come with the following “extras”:
- cPanel and WHM, so that you can manage your stuff with ease
- Free setup, so that you aren’t spinning everything up by yourself
- Rapid provisioning, so you can get started with your website right away and not have to wait for TMDHosting to set up your account(s)
However, if you need a dedicated IP address (recommended for security reasons), you will need to purchase this separately.
Watch for Sales
Furthermore, TMDHosting regularly runs sales, which means that you can purchase and try out premium level hosting without breaking the bank.
You will typically find these plans between 40-60% off, though renewals are processed at the regular rate.
Specialized Hosting Needs
In addition to the options described on the TMDHosting website, the company offers products to suit pretty much any of your needs. Some — such as hosting for adult websites — are unlisted, but available.
If you are working with an open source product, TMDHosting might be a great fit since the technical support team will help you with the infrastructure-related aspects. This is help that you might not get otherwise without paying for professional services.
PCI-Compliant Web Hosting
TMDHosting makes no claims on its shared hosting options being PCI compliant, so we assume that they are not. More premium hosting options, such as VPS hosting plans or dedicated servers, that allow you greater control, can easily be configured to be PCI compliant, but this is not something that is unique to TMDHosting.
Customer Service and Technical Support
TMDHosting offers excellent customer support. The top-notch tech support team is available to you 24/7 via telephone, live chat, or support ticket, and for non-urgent questions, you can post to the company forum.
The forums are monitored, and in addition to community responses, you will see staff responses as well. The company promises responses to all inquiries (except for those on the forum) within 15 minutes of receipt.
Knowledgebase and Forum
In terms of reference materials, TMDHosting divides its knowledgebase into sections based on hosting type (eg, Shared Hosting, Reseller Hosting) so you only see the information that is relevant to your account.
The documents, as a whole, are pretty good and you are likely to find what you need.
There is also a forum where you can ask questions — the responses to your questions may come from TMDHosting staff or other users.

Migration Services
TMDHosting offers free migration services for a limited number of sites (the company does not provide a specific number). You can request assistance with your website migrations by opening a support ticket that includes the relevant details.
TMDHosting provides free, daily backups for shared hosting customers.
Trials, Refunds, and Money Back Guarantees
TMDHosting does not offer any type of trials, but the company has a great refund policy/money back guarantee. If you purchase the following types of hosting, you will get a 60-day money back guarantee:
- Shared Hosting
- Cloud Hosting
The exception is if you choose a monthly plan — if this is the case, you will get a 30-day money back guarantee. The 30-day money back guarantee also applies to users with:
- Reseller Hosting
- VPS Hosting
- Dedicated Servers
There are no refunds for Bare Metal Servers, add-ons, extra services, or domain names.
Pros and Cons
Now that we’ve covered what TMDHosting offers, what are the pros and cons of this web host?
Pros
- Excellent customer service, including extended money back guarantees, active staff presence on question-and-answer forums, and assistance with things like backups and migrations
- Low prices for plans that offer features many other web hosts consider to be add-ons
- Availability of cloud hosting at a low price point
Cons
- Inexpensive, but not the cheapest options around
- Shared hosting customers are not allowed to select the datacenter that hosts their website
- Published discounts are valid for a short period of time (typically the first term only — TMDHosting processes renewals at the regular rate)
Comparable Hosts
If TMDHosting looks good but isn’t quite what you are looking for, check out these three alternatives.
HostGator
HostGator is a great option for users needing a no-frills, yet full-featured web hosting provider. It offers inexpensive shared hosting plans that include everything you need to get started, as well as a sitebuilder. The company offers solid customer support. If you need cloud-based, reseller, VPS, or dedicated hosting, HostGator offers these as well.
SiteGround
If you want a web host that provides great customer service, but you find the wide assortment of options offered by a typical hosting company overwhelming, check out SiteGround. The company offers shared and WordPress hosting options, as well as the add-ons that you need to fully build and serve your website.
LiquidWeb
LiquidWeb is a provider of premium, managed hosting. Those looking for entry-level shared hosting plans should look elsewhere, but for users unsatisfied by TMDHosting’s upper-level hosting options, Liquid Web may prove to be a viable (and even preferable) alternative.
Summary
TMDHosting is a hidden gem, and if you are on a budget, its plans are a great way to get a lot of features and functionality. (Honestly, the company is a great option even if you are not on a budget). In short, you’ll find:
- Fully managed hosting options (even at the shared hosting level)
- A good cancellation/refunds policy — company offers a sixty-day money back guarantee
- Plans at all level come with lots of bonus features (for example, the shared hosting plans come with free SSL certificates, SSD storage, and NGINX web servers)

Great support 24 hrs, 7 days a week, 365! Quick too! Knowledegable experts on hand for any question or query.
Very very happy! I am a mid level power user, I need root access via SSH and to MySQL and am comfortable on the command line in many areas. But …
I also want a hand with anything that could bring my server to its knees and put all my clients websites offline in a heartbeat. I feel that TMD ‘has my back’ when anything is outside of my comfort zone.
