Page.ly’s customers can’t install anything else, nor can they work with more than one domain at a time.

Despite its instant setup and obvious simplicity, Page.ly does have some limitations that not everyone will be comfortable with.

What is Page.ly?

Page.ly works WordPress into the signup process. You pick your WordPress theme as part of the registration: everything’s streamlined.

This is a super-quick way to get started, and it means Page.ly can focus its support purely on WordPress, since there’s nothing else to sign up for.

Who is Page.ly For?

Page.ly admits that its service is not ideal for those with a lot of experience. It’s better for people who want a no-fuss WordPress site and solid, relevant support. Someone with no experience of WordPress, and no desire to learn about hosting, would be well served by its services.

But the price is still a sticking point.

• A monthly fee of $14.98 is not an unreasonable amount of money, it’s a lot more than other shared hosting providers charge for a lot more functionality. In fact, for that kind of money, you could buy a very basic VPS hosting account.
• Additionally, Page.ly only offers 5 GB of storage for each account.
• Bandwidth is apparently “virtually unlimited”, but we’re wary of any service that’s not completely transparent on that.
• Users also have to pay a setup fee for FTP access or POP/IMAP access to email. This information is hidden away.

Should You Choose Page.ly?

For the majority of customers looking for a web host, Page.ly could be seen to offer poor value for money. Charging a fee for FTP access isn’t entirely fair, and it’s clearly done to limit the amount of support calls relating to more advanced problems.

Granted, Page.ly isn’t competing on price, but ease of use, and that’s where it could win out. WordPress is pretty easy to set up with a good one-click installer, but you might choose Page.ly just to avoid jumping through hoops and get up and running right away.
