OpenX Source (formerly phpadsnew) is an open-source advertising solution that allows users to create targeted advertising campaigns with rotating banners. It also includes a tracking element to collect statistical information about respondents.
Opening an online storefront is not the only way to make money with your website. One way to integrate advertising with your website is via the use of banners. These advertisements appear in the sidebars, headers, and footers of some websites and contain static or brief animated ads for products and services. While these banner ads used to be as fixed as their vinyl and cloth counterparts, advances in technology have enabled the creation of rotating “smart” banners that, in conjunction with analytics, allow for the creation of ever-changing, targeted ads. The software comes in three versions: OpenX Source, OpenX OnRamp, and OpenX Enterprise. The first two are free, but have limited functionality, no supported hosting or bandwidth for content, or customer support. OpenX Enterprise has a fee structure based on impressions (i.e., clicks, views, or other interactions with ads), along with a bevy of advanced features and comprehensive support and development services.
Some hosts offer OpenX advertising support as a component of their hosting packages, but it can be added to your site manually as well (just keep in mind that additional traffic and use of resources may affect your hosting bill if they grow too large).
