Why Choose Sandvox Hosting?

As one of the first contact points for potential clients, your website is a critical component of your business. But you may not have the time to learn HTML or other Web development programming languages—or the budget to hire a site designer. Fortunately, a wide range of What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (WYSIWYG) sitebuilders are available to help even novices build polished websites quickly. And if you’re a Mac user, you may want to take a look at Sandvox.

Designed and sold by Karelia software, Sandvox is designed from the ground up to help just about anyone create a modern and professional website. The drag-and-drop interface, along with dozens of site templates, make creating pages and entire sites a snap. To build a site in Sandvox, start with a design, then add pages and “objects”—maps, videos, images, social media components, blog posts and more—by simply dragging them into position. Sandvox handles all the of the coding (done in HTML5) behind the scenes.

Are you a little more technically inclined? Sandvox sites are easy to customize and fine tune with modules that let you insert HTML, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), PHP Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) scripts, and more.

Karelia offers a free trial version of Sandvox for download at their site. The free version will only let you publish the first five pages of any site; for larger sites, you’ll need to upgrade to the Pro version for $79.99 (available both directly from Karelia and in the Mac App Store).

To run Sandvox 2.5 (the latest version), you’ll need a Mac running OS X version 10.6 (“Snow Leopard”, 10.6.6 or higher), 10.7 (“Lion”), 10.8 (“Mountain Lion”), or 10.9 (“Mavericks”). If you’re still using OS X 10.5 (“Leopard”) or 10.4.11 (“Tiger”), you can download and use earlier versions of the software.

Since Sandvox is a standalone sitebuilding tool, and not a Web application or framework, hosting packages are not generally built around it. That said, uploading sites you build to your Web server should be a fairly straightforward process with the majority of Web hosting providers (most hosting providers support the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) used to upload sites from Sandvox).

While they don’t necessarily offer Sandvox “hosting,” some providers do offer Sandvox-friendly hosting, designed to make uploading the sites you build as easy as possible. If you’re not sure whether your provider supports Sandvox, be sure to contact them for more information.
