Asteroid Hosting Review
Asteroid Hosting is a relatively new hosting provider. Founded in 2014, Asteroid Hosting, or A Hosting for short, offers a range of shared and VPS plans. While the focus is clearly on shared and VPS hosting, dedicated servers are available as well.
The company’s hardware is located in the EU and US, but detailed information and user testimonials are hard to come by. Considering the company’s limited time on the market, this is understandable.
Services and Specializations
Asteroid Hosting focuses on inexpensive shared and virtual private server (VPS) hosting. All servers are based on Linux (the company relies on LAMP, no Windows plans are available).
This approach is best reflected in Asteroid Hosting’s entry-level Mini shared hosting plan, which starts at under €1 per month. However, this plan is limited to a single domain, one MySQL database, and comes without free support. Asteroid Hosting offers two more shared hosting plans, with more storage and bandwidth. These plans are not limited to a single domain and MySQL database. They also feature free tech support and optional extras, like SSL.
All three shared hosting plans come with SSD storage, which is commendable given the affordable pricing.
Asteroid Hosting VPS plans are a bit more elaborate, and there’s more choice. A total of eight VPS plans are available, with prices ranging from €7 to €140 per month. All VPS plans come with SSD storage, free daily backups, 99.9% uptime guarantee, and 24/7 technical support.
Five dedicated server plans are available as well, but customization options are limited.
Asteroid Hosting Infrastructure
Information on Asteroid Hosting’s datacenters and infrastructure is limited. We tried to configure a VPS server and were offered three datacenter choices: Amsterdam, New York, and Virginia.
The only additional information comes in the form of the 99.9% uptime guarantee and the fact that A Hosting relies on SSD storage for its shared and VPS hosting plans.
A quick glance at the Dedicated Servers section gives us a rough idea of what to expect in terms of hardware. Asteroid Hosting’s dedicated servers are based on Intel Xeon processors and most come with SSD storage out of the box. A closer look reveals that the company does not offer the latest generation of Xeon processors with DDR4 memory. Instead, it relies on somewhat older Xeon SKUs, equipped with DDR3 memory.
Support and Customer Service
Asteroid Hosting offers technical support and customer service in English and Russian.
While the company claims to offer round the clock support, it’s worth noting that phone support is not available. Support is limited to live chat for urgent matters, and email for everything else.
Summary
Asteroid Hosting, or A Hosting, offers a limited range of services, geared towards individuals and small businesses.
Availability of support in Russian is clearly a big plus for potential customers in the Russian Federation and most CIS states. However, lack of phone support could be a deal-breaker for some.
Another thing worth singling out is the company’s focus on SSD storage. While it might not use the latest Intel processors on some of its plans, Asteroid Hosting offers solid state storage even on its entry-level shared plans, which is a nice touch, and can be considered a market differentiator in this segment.
