I have been with them for a few years, and have been pretty happy. Online support has been fast and effective, and I am happy with their features. I do notice some times when my sites are inexplicably slow/not loading, but not that often and only for a few minutes.

ANHosting specialises in unlimited, shared web hosting. Its focus is on low-cost introductory packages, reliability and unlimited resources.

The company was formed in 2001 and currently boasts a large team of more than 100 employees. It is owned by Hosting Services Incorporated, part of the UK2 Group. ANHosting’s offices are based in Providence, Utah in the United States.

ANHosting Hosting Plans

ANHosting has a single hosting plan which is fairly typical of a shared hosting provider in this price band. The plan provides users with a free domain name, and the plan itself promises unlimited space, bandwidth, databases, subdomains, addon domains and FTP accounts. Email accounts are also unlimited, but customers are prevented from sending more than 200 emails per hour. All hosting is Linux-based and websites are hosted in the cloud for reliability.

Although not clearly advertised, I found a secondary plan for WordPress-only which promises a jargon-free instant setup of WordPress. This is the same as the original package but is marketed more towards people who want to get up-and-running without delving into control panels and admin screens.

As well as the usual array of auto-installs and scripts, ANHosting provides customers with a dedicated IP (optional) for an extra fee, plus the use of Perl, Python, SSH, Ruby on Rails and other programming technologies. Although it doesn’t shout about the finer details, it’s clear there’s room to expand if you outgrow the pre-packaged tools it provides.

ANHosting Uptime/Downtime

ANHosting is very keen to promote its 99.9% uptime guarantee. Their cloud shared hosting is a forward-thinking way of approaching shared hosting, and for the price, it’s a good sign that ANHosting is thinking ahead. Cloud technology should mean reliability is very good, although the company doesn’t appear to publish statistics about past performance.

ANHosting states that its Tier 3 data centre is located close to their own company offices, so it’s logical to assume it’s based in Providence, UT in the USA, or somewhere nearby. The data centre is staffed around the clock and the facility has redundant power, cold row cooling, smoke detection and CCTV. Customer data is protected by daily snapshot backups. Tier 3 data centres are by definition some of the more resilient data centres in the industry: technically, a data centre of this standard can provide 99.98% uptime, and this is reflected in the company’s SLAs.

ANHosting Support

ANHosting provides round-the-clock support, 7 days a week. The support team is accessed via telephone, live chat, email and a web-based ticketing system. There’s no obvious support documentation on the website, although it seems the technical support team are all based in-house.

There is a company blog covering topical issues, and an ANHosting Twitter account which does not appear to provide support. Its Google+ and Facebook pages also mainly serve to post blogs and announcements.

ANHosting has not attracted any negative publicity from large tech websites. Overall, its service appears to be trouble-free.

ANHosting customers are provided with Cpanel as standard, although it isn’t clear what version of Cpanel is currently in use. Support and billing is handled through a second, custom control panel, which is as you’d expect.

ANHosting Extras

Customers receive a free domain name on sign-up and also gain access to a range of auto-installers, including Drupal, Joomla, WordPress, b2evolution and various forums, image galleries and so on. Customers who need eCommerce packages can install Magento, Blesta, Zen Cart, osCommerce etc, and opt to use a shared SSL certificate.

ANHosting does not appear to offer any free advertising or marketing credits.

ANHosting Money Back Guarantee / Cancellation Policy

ANHosting don’t make a big fuss about their anytime money-back guarantee, but it’s there if you look in their Terms of Service. This money-back guarantee applies to all new accounts and offers a full pro rata refund, minus an admin fee of $35 and a fee per ‘free’ domain of $10.99. Partial months’ service are not included in the refund, and nor are any additional service fees or upgrades.

If you want to end your service with ANHosting, note that that all cancellation requests have to be submitted through a specific cancellation form at http://cancel.anhosting.com. This is not the same as the ordinary email form or ticket submission system.

ANHosting Summary

Customers looking for unlimited shared hosting should certainly take a look at ANHosting. It may only have one plan, but that plan provides enough flexibility for beginners to set up a website, or for more experienced webmasters to explore other packages and programming techniques. The fact that the company hosts in the cloud is a great sign for reliability, and the 99.9% uptime guarantee will please people moving from less reliable shared hosts.

The lack of published support material and the sneaky cancellation terms are slight negatives, but my impression of ANHosting was generally positive. For a no-fuss shared hosting package, I think you could do a lot worse.
