I have been with brontobytes about 2 years, there are some good and some not so good experience with them. Overall they are undoubtedly a good hosting provider for my wordpess blog. I am using there VPS plan now with 50GB disk space and the only problem I faced so far was 2 times with my email outgoing server which was quickly resolved by the support staff really quickly.

I created an account on the Thursday, and accessed the Control Panel.

On the Friday nothing. Timed out on everything. admittedly it is good Friday, but his is not a good start.

I seriously have to wonder if I’ve been deceived here – hopefully not, but as I stated, not a good start.

So I have paid nearly £100 for a service that so far does not seem to exist.

Worrying.

Their cloud solution plans all include root access with over 50 OS options to choose from, 5 locations all over Europe, a huge variety of redundancies and backup options available, and scalable resources for sliding demand (for example, spikes over the holidays for ecommerce sites). Each cloud storage unit is RAID10 protected and has Multipath I/O for full redundancy.

In addition to their hosting products, Brontobytes also offers SSL certificates and enterprise email hosting, rounding out their business solution for ecommerce webmasters. They two different types of SSL certificates powered by RaidSSL and GeoTrust respectively. Their enterprise email hosting service is run on Open-Xchange, a centralized cloud environment. Brontobytes provides their customers with top of the line hardware to host their websites. Each shared account is hosted on a dual quad core server with clustered failover DNS, off-site data backups, constant network monitoring, and redundant power supplies. Brontobytes runs their shared accounts on green servers. Their cloud servers are equally robust and are self healing servers (should one go down your data is shifted automatically to another). Brontobytes has superb support. They offer 24/7 support for all of their hosting plans, and customers have the option to choose from live chat, phone, email, or tickets to get help. They also announce any problems that are either upcoming or that they’re experiencing currently both on their own site and on their Twitter feed. They also have an extensive and fully searchable knowledgebase and video tutorial bank set up on their website for the more self-help inclined. Plus, their cloud server customers can also give desktop control over to the Brontobytes techs, so you can watch them fix your problem.

All of their shared hosting plans are run on redundant power supplies with regular off site backup. They also include standard security measures like spam protection, backup/restore manager, HotLink protection, and password protect directories. Their cloud servers also offer Snapshot backups and RSync backups (off site backups), with a proactive managed server option available as well. In the Brontobytes service level agreement, they do stipulate that any backup that they provide is merely a courtesy, and are not responsible for your data.

Uptime Guarantee

For both their shared and cloud hosting options, Brontobytes promises 99.9% network uptime per calendar month and lays this out in their SLA. If they fail to meet that guarantee, then you are entitled to your money back for that month. This does not include problems upstream (outside) of their network or scheduled maintenance. For scheduled maintenance, they will give 12-24 hours notice.

Payment Policies

Brontobytes charges either monthly, yearly, biannually, or triennially with subsequent price decreases as your time goes up. They accept PayPal, Visa, and MasterCard payments. However, aside from their money back guarantee, their fees are entirely non-refundable. Customers are expected to pay their invoices with 7 days or their accounts and suspended. Another 7 days, and customers will be charged a reactivation fee when they do eventually pay. Any account that is owing for more than 30 days will be deleted, including all data.

30 Day Money Back Guarantee

Brontobytes does offer a 30 day money back guarantee. If you’re not happy with their service, you can get all your money back less the setup fee and any additional services that you order like SSL certificates, dedicated IP addresses, or domain registration.

Conclusion

For businesses looking to serve the European market, Brontobytes is a fantastic service. They provide ample support for businesses, total scalability and flexibility, and feature-rich plans for bargain prices. With shared, cloud, SSL certificates, and enterprise email applications, they’re a good IT solution for a growing business.
