GetHosting.ie Introduction
GetHosting.ie aims its hosting at business customers in Ireland. It’s owned by FCR Media, a digital marketing agency that is headquartered in Dublin. GetHosting.ie is an accredited registrar for .ie domain registrations. Since .ie is the country code top-level domain (TLD) for Ireland, this reinforces its niche with local businesses. The company offers various web hosting packages, plus website design services for companies.
Across all plans, GetHosting.ie is priced to compete with larger web hosting companies. There’s no monthly price option, but hosting plan features are clearly laid out. Prices are advertised excluding VAT, which is charged at 23% at the time of writing this review.
Services and Specializations
GetHosting.ie offers a range of TLDs through its domain registration service. It specializes in .ie registrations, but customers can choose other TLDs like .com, as well as the new TLDs like .florist.
In terms of web hosting, it offers different cloud hosting plans, all with unlimited bandwidth and email capacity. All plans appear to be Linux-based, with no option to host on Windows. The amount of storage space offered on each plan scales up along with the price, although the most basic plan only allows you to create one website. None of the GetHosting.ie plans offer unlimited storage for your data, but the allowances are generous enough that only the largest businesses would struggle.
At GetHosting.ie, all plans come with cPanel, 24/7 security monitoring, 24/7 support, and DDoS protection. The plans appear to come with a site builder tool for free, although there’s no information about its capabilities. You can choose to install common applications, like Joomla! and WordPress, using the one-click installer feature; this offers more than 200 different apps and scripts for blogs, ecommerce applications, and more.
Website design is a separate service, and customers can choose from various design packages, including full and one-page websites.
Data Centers
GetHosting.ie doesn’t state where its datacenter is located. There’s also no information about this in its T&Cs.
Support and Customer Service
On its website, GetHosting.ie provides a phone number and an email address for support questions. There’s also a contact form, but this doesn’t appear to be linked to a ticket system, and seems to be purely for convenience. For hosting customers, technical support is provided 24/7 via both phone and email.
A live chat facility is available, but this appears to be provided for sales queries, rather than technical support.
Backups
There’s no information about backups on the GetHosting.ie website, so it would be sensible to assume that you’ll need to arrange your own backups using cPanel. There’s also no mention of backups in the host’s Terms and Conditions, so it’s unclear whether it takes any snapshot or other backups.
Uptime Guarantee
All customers at GetHosting.ie benefit from a 99.7% uptime guarantee, which would permit around 30 minutes per week, or 2 hours and 11 minutes of downtime per month.
Should uptime fall below this figure, it’s not clear what customers can claim, if anything. There’s no information about the uptime guarantee in its T&Cs.
Billing and Payment
GetHosting.ie only supports payment via credit card, and all plans must be paid for annually, in advance. All packages are advertised and billed in Euros, and the host accepts Visa, Mastercard and Discover. It doesn’t appear to accept PayPal payments or monthly installments.
All plans are provided with a 45-day money-back guarantee. Again, there’s nothing in the host’s terms and conditions to describe how this guarantee works.
Summary
GetHosting.ie is aimed squarely at the Irish market, although it offers services that any business could use. Its specialty in Irish domain names will be a plus for any company with Irish offices, and its hosting starts at an affordable price. Remember to factor in Irish VAT when comparing its rates with other hosts, plus the possibility of currency conversion fees.
We were disappointed to see a lack of specific Terms and Conditions around guarantees and support, or the uptime promise that the host provides. Instead, there was a generic T&C document that was rather vague on the details, which didn’t offer enough specifics for us to make confident judgments on what customers could expect. More clarity would have made GetHosting.ie easier to recommend, but its plans offer enough for many businesses to build good websites, and will be of particular interest to businesses in Ireland.
