I’m an independent web designer and I also host sites for friends. I have the Unix Developer hosting plan at Host Department. I have been a customer at Host Department for over five years.

The first few years were pretty smooth and I had no problems at all with the service. Recently (I’m talking for the past year) there have been horrid technical problems. Critical technical errors have occurred at high frequencies for some reason.

Two days after paying for the full year last month, all my websites were down and every method of access (including FTP and WebShell) was unavailable. At this point only SQL was available. It seems that for some reason they had migrated me to another server –I had found this out on my own.

Only weeks later all my websites were returning 403 Forbidden errors, and all methods of access (including FTP and WebShell) were once more unavailable. Technical support has also seemed to change. They only partly fixed my issue the first time, to the point where everyone except me was able to access the site.

It’s getting frustrating to see that the money I spent is going down the drain, as my sites are often down for a few days –normal technical support teams should be able to handle this problem within one to two days at the very most, as I have seen them do in the past. It seems to me that Host Department has fallen below the standard I once received…

I have been hosting in Host Department since 1 year. In the beginning i suffered from uptime issues. But then later on the issue is solved and now am satisfied with its service.

Recently they migrated my account to new control panel free of cost and its doing a great service now. Good Job Host Departmennt

Been with host department for 2 months and it’s been very horrible for me. The main issue is with features they offer. It’s Outdated.

Only hope is support team, who try to help out with limited resources provided. Do check your requirements before going with them.

Opened up a Reseller account in 2006. We cancelled service in 2010. After many years of agony in dealing with service going down, customers complaining, we transferred up to Canada, where we are, to have closer access to our rip off artists.

Turned out the Canadian service was genuine as I am confident many US suppliers are too. So, our domain was still with them. We last renewed it in 2010 of August.

Yesterday our DNR went down as the renew date was of Aug 28th. I have spent the last two days, yet again, with these idiots trying to get my business website and emails active again. When we review the time invested in customer support and tech support it adds up to over six weeks on the phone and in email correspondence since 2006.

That on it’s own merit is absolutely unacceptable. Who compensates us for our lost time on these issues? No one.

Then I finally get in touch with the Legal Department only to be told yet again that it will take an additional 24 hours to get this service back to the point where I can at least renew the domain. Furthermore, they have the domain locked so that we can’t transfer it to our current service provider. Is this even legal?

I absolutely despise Host Department and everything they do. For them to do this to a business account is beyond me. How would they survive if someone locked their domain and email up on them for 2 full days of business?

But because they deal in volume en masse they could care a less about some idiot Canadian who could never approach them and deal with them face to face. I strongly urge anyone to stay away from this company 100%. Pay the extra $5 per month for a service that has reputable clients and will not fail you if you need a reminder that something is about to expire.

We didn’t even get a courtesy email or anything, just BAM, no service. It has costs us about $1K in 24 hours and will be about the same for yet another day. Customers and sales staff are beside themselves and customers are thinking we are out of business because today customers go online before they phone you and if your not online they assume your out of business and most don’t bother to call.

Again, Stay away from host department. They will cost you customers and not blink an eye over it. Look at this way, to verify who we are we had to send our Articles of Incorporation to the floor manager.

We did that. He left for home and unless I had bothered to contact them yet again no one would have even bothered in telling us what was going on. Now how is that "Excellent Customer Service"? It isn’t, it is nothing short of saying "who cares about what you want, we will deal with you when we are ready or not at all!"

Host Department has had continuous problems for the last year. At least once a week, sites are down or painfully slow. Right now sites have been down for 4 days and slow for a week before that.

Now, with sites down, you can not get anyone on the phone, via email, via support ticket, or via live chat. They have been making excuses and promises of a time when these problems will be fixed for the last 4 days and so far they have not met any of them. If it was only my sites that were down, I could live with that but every one of their customers websites are down.

None of their servers are working and they don’t seem to have the knowledge to repair them. You get the same support person everytime you do get through but they give you a different, made up name each time. Whatever you do…..do NOT host with Host Department. It will be the death of your business as it has been for mine.

The support department is really so great they are helping me at any time and any day without any excuse, even they are not only doing the duty of support but with me they are doing job of developer just to keep my site running in good condition, for that I am a customer with this company more than 10 years and I will never move from here just because this company has such support department.
