SolidSpace Introduction

SolidSpace offers a wide range of hosting services. The company is based in Winston Salem, North Carolina, USA. SolidSpace uses a single, locally operated datacenter within their office building.

Services and Specializations

SolidSpace provides a range of quality hosting plans, both shared and dedicated. There are no VPS plans available. All hosting plans come with a 99.5% uptime guarantee.

Shared hosting plans come in four flavors of LAMP and four flavors of Windows. Basic shared hosting plans offer 250 MB disk space with a 25 GB monthly bandwidth, while the top shared hosting plans offer 1,500 MB disk storage and 200 GB monthly bandwidth. All shared hosting plans require an additional $25 setup fee. Solid space also offers Mac shared hosting plans and ColdFusion shared hosting plans, with the same specifications as the aforementioned LAMP and Windows plans.

SolidSpace also offers colocation services as a flexible option where the clients provide their own configured servers and places them in SolidSpace’s datacenter. Clients can also choose an additional option where SolidSpace monitors and manages collocated servers instead of the client.

SolidSpace’s dedicated server portfolio is extensive, with five unmanaged server plans and four managed server plans. All dedicated servers are based on Intel Core i5 CPUs with 1 GB to 8 GB RAM and storage ranging from 320 GB up to 2 TB. Mac dedicated server options are also available. Two different models of support are available in dedicated server plans; business hours support, and 24/7 support. Different installation fees are required for all dedicated server plans, so be sure to check the details. All dedicated server plans come with a 99.5% network uptime SLA, and custom dedicated servers can also be configured and ordered.

On top of hosting, SolidSpace specializes in different IT services like server management, backup and disaster recovery, database hosting, ISP services, network design and installation, and IT support in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina.

SolidSpace Infrastructure

Interestingly, SolidSpace uses a single, locally operated datacenter in their office building. This facility is equipped with redundant power systems, HVAC equipment, 24/7 security, and advanced fire suppression systems.

Detailed server specifications are not listed, but dedicated server hosting plans reveal more details about the server hardware used in their datacenter.

Support and Customer Service

SolidSpace offers different levels of support, with options like around the clock support through the ticketing system integrated in the control panel, email support, and phone support available between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday.

After-hours emergency support is also available through the SolidSpace online customer center.

Summary

SolidSpace is not a standard hosting company, as it offers a range of IT services unrelated to hosting. While many of these services are restricted to one specific region of the US (Piedmont Triad, North Carolina), some of them can be used regardless of your location.

SolidSpace is obviously targeting the local market, but that does not mean it’s limited to users in North America. The company offers multiple shared hosting plans, but there are no VPS plans on offer. However, SolidSpace also offers several dedicated hosting plans, some of which are based on Intel desktop processors rather than Xeon server parts.

This approach is not uncommon, as it allows companies to offer dedicated servers for customers with a limited budget, provided they don’t need an immensely powerful Xeon processor.
