BlueHost was founded in 2003 by Matt Heaton, the current owner and CEO. BlueHost is one of the largest privately held and fastest growing shared hosting companies in the world.
Its sister companies include HostMonster (founded in 2006) and Fast Domain (founded in 2005). BlueHost concentrates on providing Linux-based low cost shared web hosting and domain registrations.
Company and Services
BlueHost, along with sister company HostMonster employs more than 140 staff. Both companies are headquartered in Orem, Utah, just outside Salt Lake City. Together, they host a massive 1 million domain names.
Both BlueHost and HostMonster have experienced tremendous growth recently, with 200,000 new websites hosted in just the first three months of 2008.
BlueHost offers a single hosting solution, but is flexible enough to meet the needs of both individual users with simple websites and businesses with complex e-commerce or multiply domain requirements. Competitive pricing and “one flexible package fits all approach” has made BlueHost attractive to both ends of the hosting market.
BlueHost’s hosting package comes with plenty of features, including unlimited space and bandwidth plus a free domain name. E-commerce webmasters may be interested in the SSL certificates, web auction software and shopping cart plug-ins that come as built in benefits. BlueHost lets you host unlimited domains on each account.
The company has a fairly good reputation for reliability and promises 99.9% uptime. Customer support is also well regarded, with 24 hour toll free support and 24/7 on-line live chat, as well as the standard email ticketing system.
In 2008 BlueHost won two main awards for customer service (from Top 10 Web Hosting.com and Hosting Trail.com) adding to a collection of support awards from 2006. In 2005 it was selected at the Best Host of the Year by 100 Best Web Hosting.com, which is compiled from user reviews.
